HOW TRESIBA® WORKS

A slow and steady release that works the way your body’s insulin does

Once-daily injection
Tresiba® comes in FlexTouch® and is taken by injection. Once injected, Tresiba® helps the sugar in your blood get into your cells. Sugar provides your cells with energy needed to fuel your body.

Unique molecular design
The unique molecular design of Tresiba® allows it to connect like a string of pearls.

Around-the-clock control
Tresiba® releases slow and steady from the ends of the chain for around-the-clock blood sugar control.

Clinical studies have shown that Tresiba® delivers

Tresiba® has been studied in multiple clinical trials in adults with type 2 and type 1 diabetes. These studies have examined Tresiba® in the following ways:

Tresiba® vs Lantus® in type 2 diabetes.

You can take once-daily Tresiba® at any time of day, and still stay in control. If you miss or delay a dose, take Tresiba® as soon as you remember, then continue with your regular dosing schedule. Make sure there are at least 8 hours between doses.

Tresiba® U-200 FlexTouch® doses up to 160 units in a single injection.

Compared with Lantus® in type 2 diabetes

Was Tresiba® studied vs Lantus® in adults with type 2 diabetes?

Yes!

Several studies compared Tresiba® vs Lantus® (insulin glargine U-100) in adults with type 2 diabetes.

The studies showed that when administered once a day, Tresiba® and Lantus® provided similar blood sugar control. No clinically important differences in risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) between Tresiba® and comparators were observed in clinical trials.

Key study details:

  • Patients had type 2 diabetes
  • Included patients new to insulin or previously on insulin
  • The groups were randomized
  • The studies were either 26 or 52 weeks
  • The trials were open-label
Adults can take once-daily Tresiba® at any time of day, and still stay in control. Children must take their dose at the same time every day. Adults who miss or delay a dose should take Tresiba® as soon as they remember, then continue with their regular dosing schedule, making sure there are at least 8 hours between doses. If children miss a dose, their health care provider should be contacted and blood glucose levels monitored more frequently until the next scheduled dose.

For adults with changing schedules

Will Tresiba® let adults adjust their daily dose time if needed and still keep their blood sugar under control?

Yes!

A study evaluated whether administering Tresiba® in adults at varied daily dose times provided the same blood sugar control compared with using Lantus® (insulin glargine U-100) or Tresiba® once daily at the same time each day.

This study showed that adults with type 2 diabetes can vary their daily dosing time of Tresiba® by 8 to 40 hours without compromising blood sugar control. Taking Tresiba® at various daily dose times provided similar control to taking Lantus® or Tresiba® at the same time every day.

Adults who miss or delay a dose should take Tresiba® as soon as they remember, then return to their regular dosing schedule, making sure there are at least 8 hours between doses.

Key study details:

  • Adult patients had type 2 diabetes
  • Adult patients took the insulin in combination with up to 3 diabetes pills
  • Included adult patients new to insulin or previously on insulin
  • The groups were randomized
  • The study was for 26 weeks
  • The trial was open-label
Tresiba® U-200 FlexTouch® doses up to 160 units in a single injection.

In a 160-unit maximum-dose pen

Can I keep my blood sugar under control in 1 injection per day, even if I need more than 80 units?

Yes!

One study compared Tresiba® U-200 vs Lantus® (insulin glargine U-100) to see if the concentration of Tresiba® U-200 allowed adults with type 2 diabetes to get similar blood sugar control from half the volume of the insulin.

The study showed that Tresiba® U-200 worked as well as Lantus®. This means Tresiba® U-200 can be as effective at lowering blood sugar. Tresiba® U-200 FlexTouch® is a 160-unit maximum-dose pen, and Lantus® SoloSTAR® is an 80-unit maximum-dose pen. So patients can dose up to 160 units in a single injection with Tresiba® U-200, which could mean fewer daily injections.

Key study details:

  • Adult patients who had type 2 diabetes
  • Adult patients took the insulin in combination with metformin with or without a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor
  • Only included adult patients new to insulin
  • The groups were randomized
  • The study was for 26 weeks
  • The trial was open-label

Compared with Lantus® in type 1 diabetes

Does Tresiba® work similarly to Lantus® for adults with type 1 diabetes?

Yes!

One study compared Tresiba® vs Lantus® (insulin glargine U-100) in adults with type 1 diabetes.

This study showed that when administered once a day, along with rapid-acting insulin at mealtimes, Tresiba® and Lantus® provided similar blood sugar control.

Key study details:

  • Adult patients who had type 1 diabetes
  • The groups were randomized
  • The study was for 52 weeks
  • The trial was open-label
